“Fresh Impressions on Brandmarks (from my 5-year-old)”

(by AdamLaddVideos)

The defining signature of the system is the 13° angle. 13° represents HP’s spirit as a company, driven forward by ingenuity and optimism about the future and a belief in human progress. It also refers to the world of computing by recalling the forward slash used in programming. 13° exists within the brand identity, in the graphic language, product design and UI.

Moving Brands

The creative vision that Moving Brands developed for HP—including identity applications and logo animation.

I think it’s beautiful.

This may or may not be the new look of HP.

OCAD University’s Visual Identity

OCAD

Taken from the OCAD University’s Visual Identity webpage which explains the new visual identity and process:

For this new identity, the Bruce Mau Design team worked collaboratively with OCAD University’s Marketing & Communications team in an intensive research and engagement phase. We involved students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members by facilitating interviews, designing multiple workshops, disseminating questionnaires, leading classroom discussions, connecting through social media — with the goal of excavating the stories and spirit of OCAD U. The synthesis of this material led us to a robust set of design principles that would guide the design work. The visual identity needed to be a true reflection of what we heard and saw: an inclusive, vibrant and vital institution built on creativity, risk and innovation.

With this in mind, we asked ourselves, ‘can the visual identity reveal the extraordinary creative energy that lives at OCAD U?’ Inspired by the iconic and transformational Alsop-designed building, BMD created a base of black and white pixel ‘windows’ — modular frames to hold actual student art and design work. It is through these ‘windows’ that we see the core of OCAD U that is often hidden from view — conceptually strong, diverse, and compelling. This is a dynamic and modular identity where every year, graduating student medal winners will be invited to design a logo within the basic window framework providing a set of logos for that year. As OCAD U grows and matures, a living library of identities will necessarily emerge, recording the ideas and aesthetics that have shaped our culture over time.

A very interesting and new design. Check out OCAD University’s Visual Identity website for more details and more photos!

Comedy Central’s New Logo
(Coming this January 2011)

Brand New Branding of the Day: So this is Comedy Central’s new logo, which aptly resembles the copyright symbol since its parent company Viacom hates it when you share their stuff on YouTube.
And it comes with video:

Thoughts?

I think I like the old one better.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
I just recently noticed that Ben Sherman changed their logo.
Ugh.
I miss the old one.
